Clare has taken it upon herself to try every green tea everything that Japan has to offer-- pastries, bread, waffles, ice cream, etc.
The strange pancake like thing is a Kansai specialty made of eggs, cabbage, and various seafoods. It's served on a hot griddle plate and you eat it with mayo and a bbq-like sauce.
We did a traditional nine course meal in Kyoto. The pictures of each course are below. Our chef was the cutest man in the world and came to personally explain every course to us and make sure we liked it. This was just before the hot baths experience, so you can imagine why we were in no mood for boilind our organs. So stuffed.
One of the delicacies here in Osaka is the takayaki which Clare and I call "squid balls" because they are.. balls of squid. They are mostly sold by street vendors and consist of squid and batter that is slowly rotated in a round mold as it bakes. They are kind of doughy, salty, and scalding hot in the center no matter how long you wait to bite them. We don't love them, but we tried.
Justin case you were wondering...the "green tea challenge" I took on did not elicit green pee, as I was secretly hoping it would. But I now have an addiction to green tea ice cream!
ReplyDeleteHaha. (waves to Clare) Those pictures are like food porn. As for the green pee...perhaps you will fare better in Australia. Let me know if you try the vegemite. Enjoy your flight and please try to find a cute Oz or Kiwi boy for me (you can fed-ex him to me, I'll give you a card number).
ReplyDelete:-) Meg
